I tried looking around chromium os for some build but only found.bin and.img files, which unless I am unaware, cannot be used as bootable installers. Really thought someone was zealous enough to create an iso of the os, but sadly that doesnt seem to be the case.

Chrome Os X64 Download Iso
– When you download an ISO image of Chrome OS and burn it on a DVD, the DVD becomes bootable. You can use it to boot the computer and start using Chrome OS seamlessly. This way you don’t have to install the operating system on the hard drive (many new users may want to stick to their regular operating system), and you can still get some hands-on time with the OS.■After Installing on the Hard Drive – This method needs you to use the Live DVD for one time only to boot the computer and install Chrome OS on the hard drive. After installation you can start using the computer without the DVD.

Installing Chrome OS on a computer hard drive is a simple process, and here is how it can be done:
- ■Turn on your computer.
■Insert the Chrome OS Live DVD in the DVD driver of your computer.
■On the Boot Setup Utility window, under the Boot tab, set your CD-ROM Drive as the first booting device.
■Press the F10 key and then press Enter to save the changes you have made to the BIOS settings and to reboot the computer.
■Once the computer reboots, on the first displayed window, press Enter to select Cr OS Linux.
■Once the operating system boots from the Live DVD, locate and double-click the Live Installer icon from the desktop.
■When prompted, provide the root password in the Password field in the opened PASSWORD NEEDED box, and click Continue. (Password is ‘root’ without single quotes.)
■On the YaST window, click Next from the bottom-right corner.
■From the Welcome-YaST window click Next.
■When the Clock and Time Zone-YaST window comes up, click the Region and Time Zone drop-down lists to set country and city where you live in, and click Next to proceed.
■To make things simpler, in the Suggested Partitioning window, click Next without making any changes to make things simpler.
■On the Create New User window, populate the available fields with the correct values to create a user account and click Next.
■Once the Live Installation Settings-YaST window comes up, click Install from the bottom-right corner.
■After this, click Install from the Confirm Installation box to start the installation.
■Once the installation process is completed, on the Perform Installation window, click Next.
■Click Reboot Now from the opened box to reboot your computer to complete the installation.
■Click Next when the configuration process is finished on the Auto Configuration window.
■Once the Import Untrusted GnuPG key interface appears, click Trust.
■Finally, once the Chrome OS is installed and the computer restarts, press Enter to select openSUSE to boot the computer using Chrome OS and start using your Chromebook normally.
First of all, a few questions as I'm a bit confused :P
Is the Chrome OS that is shipped on Chromebooks 'Chromium'?
I'm wanting to buy a Chromebook, but I want to download an ISO or other similar format first so I can try it out in VMware.
To be clear, I'm wanting the exact version that ships on Chromebooks, as I want to get a good feel for what I'll be buying
Chrome Os Lime Iso Download
Where can I find this? I've found other things but I'm not sure they're the actual Chrome OS

Chrome OS is not Chromium OS. Check this:
You can try out Chrome OS in virtual box as shown here. Virtualbox builds are available here
Chromium is just the chrome browser (more or less). Chrome OS might use chromium for its browser, but its more complicated.
