Hi,
I need help with the AudioMIDI Setup window in my Mac Pro. I want to set it up so that I can use my Yamaha DGX 500 digital piano as both a controller and a sound module for Pro Tools 7.3.
The MIDI hardware setup was straightforward. The DGX 500 has MIDI IN/OUT ports on its back panel (and not the MIDI USB connection like the newer DGX kb series). I simply cabled from its MIDI ports to my MOTU Fastlane unit. The Fastlane unit talks to my Mac via a USB cable. On the keyboard, I set its 'Local' setting to 'off' via its LED menu display, to disconnect the piano's sound module from the controller.
The software setup is where I'm having trouble. Unforunately, the AudioMIDI Setup window's scroll-down list of MIDI presets doesn't include the DGX 500. Which means I have to set it up manually. And that is where I need help.
I have the DGX 500 Owner's Manual (which can still be downloaded from the Yamaha website. Click on 'Search' on the top nav bar to open their search engine page, and type 'dgx500' [no space in btwn the dgx and 500], and it should bring up the product's page w/ a link to the Owner's Manual pdf file). And it has a few pages regarding the use of MIDI for this piano, and some additional pages on 'MIDI Implementation Chart,' which may or may not be listing the info required for manual set up. I say 'may or may not be listing the required info' because I don't know how to read & deciper this chart, as I'm a MIDI newbie.
Can someone please help? I know there are many of you out there who's done manual MIDI setups for their unlisted keyboards, and I'm hoping one or more of you will read this post, and reply back.
