With the advent of cheap cloud storage, most consumers have started uploading photos on the cloud for storage purposes. While I myself prefer Google Photos for storing all my photos, I also prefer to keep a local backup of all my photos. This also means that I take a lot of photos from my iPhone.
Since I prefer managing my photo library myself, I always manually transfer the photos from my iPhone to my PC and then sort the photos myself. On a Mac, importing photos from an iPhone is pretty easy since iTunes takes care of that. This is made even easier by the fact that iTunes comes pre-installed on a Mac.
However, in the world of Windows, things are slightly different especially since one has to manually download and install iTunes on their Windows 10 running laptop/PC. Microsoft, thankfully, has made it easy to import photos from an iPhone or iPad in Windows 10 by adding native support for the devices in its Photos app.
How to Manually Transfer Photos from iPhone to Windows 10 PC
Step 1: As soon as you plug in your iPhone or iPad to your Windows 10 running PC, you will get a prompt asking you to authorize the PC for importing your photos and videos. After tapping Trust, you will have to enter the device passcode for verification purposes.
Step 2: Now, open a new Explorer window and select This PC from the sidebar. You should then see your iPhone or iPad under the Devices section. Tapping on the device name will show you the total internal storage along with the free storage. Again, double-click on Internal Storage followed by DCIM -> 100Apple. Inside this folder, all the photos, screenshots, and videos stored on your iPhone or iPad will be displayed.
From here, you can manually copy all the photos and videos to your PC running Windows 10.
How to Import Photos From iPhone to Windows 10 PC
If you don’t want to manually transfer photos from your iPhone to your Windows 10 PC, you can simply import the photos. Here’s how.
Step 1: Open the Photos app on your Windows 10 PC after connecting your iPhone or iPad to it. Make sure to follow step 1 from above to properly connect your iPhone or iPad to your Windows PC.
Step 2: On the top-right corner, tap Import followed by From a USB device. A list of USB devices connected to your Windows 10 PC will then be shown. From here, select your iPhone or iPad.

Step 3: The Photos app will then quickly scan through all the images and videos stored on your device. Simply select the photos you’d like to import and then click the Import Selected option.
Remember that you can always use iTunes on your Windows 10 PC to sync all the photos stored on your iPhone while also taking a backup of the device itself. However, for that, you will have to download and install iTunes on your Windows 10 PC. The app is now available on the Windows Store so installing it is a bit easier now.

Using the native Windows explorer feature or the Photos app to import photos from your iPhone or iPad in Windows 10 makes a lot of sense if you are connecting your device to someone else’s PC for quickly transferring photos and videos.
